Turning 47: Stronger and Wiser
October is my birthday month and this year, I’m celebrating 47!
This year, the month comes with deeper meaning. Earlier, my dad faced some health issues. Thankfully he is ok and is working on his recovery but the experience reminded me that even the strongest among us sometimes forgets to listen to their body’s whispers. My dad, who has always practiced what he preaches, used to say, “Listen to your body.” Watching him now, I see the truth in those words more clearly than ever.
So on my birthday, I’m doing something I’ve always done calling it my “all about me” day. A workout, then massage, a float session, a pedicure. It’s my way of honoring my body, celebrating this milestone, and re-setting for the year ahead.
Movement and wellness have always been part of my path. I’ve come to believe that the real wins aren’t in the extremes, but in the small, steady steps. It’s choosing to show up in whatever capacity day after day.
What I’ve Learned at 47
- Consistency is stronger than intensity. Some days I can go all out; other days just five minutes of hypopressives is enough.
- Rest is essential. Whether it’s my morning meditation, watching my new favorite show, sleeping, on the massage table or floating in silence, recovery feeds growth.
- Mindset determines your path. The conversations you have with yourself matter.
- Body whispers first. If we don’t pause to listen, our body eventually forces us to.
- Use every chance to begin again. Every minute of every day brings a fresh chance to evolve.

Final Thought
This birthday feels different. It’s quieter, more grounded, more reflective.
I’m not chasing “younger”, although I am happy when others say I look younger than many of my peers. I’m embracing stronger, wiser, more attuned.
So yes, I’ll work out then, massage, float, get that pedicure all on my birthday. But more than that, I’m honoring a promise to myself: to show up, to listen, to move forward gently but persistently.
Here’s to 47, to rest and movement, and to all the small moments that shape us.
AND yes, of course I will have CAKE!
